A comment from Fishgoth

I have had a chance to read this evenings forum postings by looking over a colleagues shoulder. I feel I should thank all over those who have posted messages of support on the various forums. For those who are re-posting the offending photograph, I would urge you not to.

DNUK have suspended my access to the fora for 6 months and have stated that further correspondence may not be entered into, so I guess the duration of the ban is final. I currently still have access to my DNUK email.

The reason for the ban was due to me posting a doctored photograph featuring Neil Bacon, which the DNUK staff considered obscene. The original photograph was taken from the FHM website a couple of years back and more recently was posted on b3ta.

Like many DNUK members, I felt upset that the website had sold member information to the Conservative party, an organisation I deeply loathe. I also felt that when the questions were asked on the fora as to why this information had been sold, there was no official response. To my knowledge, there still hasn't been. I accept that posting the aforementioned photograph was not an acceptable protest in the eyes of those who own the website.

As some have stated, this is my second suspension. The first suspension was not due to posting inappropriate images, as has been suggested. Rather, I was suspended for creating false accounts under the name Liam Donaldson, Hilary Jones and Evan Harris and using them to post on threads discussing poor DNUK security. This earned me a week’s suspension. I am not sure what difference it made to security.

I feel it is a shame that I am prevented from accessing the fora as I enjoy the lively and informative debate that DNUK has to offer. However, increasingly in recent months, the climate has seems less relaxed as people have come to realised that DNUK is not secure and that the information on the site is not private - indeed, it seems that as well as selling information to political parties, DNUK is beginning to act as a media spokes body.

My advice to everyone on the site is not to do what I have done. Do not speak out, or make comments or jokes that seem remotely offensive. And don’t rely on people having a sense of humour, either. Certainly, don’t get labelled a troublemaker, as I guess you too will lose the benefit from surfing the fora.

Finally, if Neil Bacon and Tim Ringrose genuinely did find the picture pornographic, I apologise for any offence.

Thank you for your comments,
